
Under the guidance of the Head of the Department, Prof. Karunasena Hettiarachchi, and the Course Coordinator, Dr. M.A.S.R.S. Manthirathna, the Department of History and Archaeology of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura organized a two-day field visit to Anuradhapura for the students of the 3rd batch of History Diploma, on 14th – 15th of October 2022.
On the way to Anuradhapura, Dedigama Kota Vehera site and Ibbankatuwa Megalithic site was visited. After reaching Anuradhapura on the first day, the sites of Twin Pond (Kuttam Pokuna), Samadhi Buddha Statue, Stone Bridge (Gal Palama), Vijayaramaya, Abhayagiri monastery complex and Thuparama stupa were visited. Consequently, on the second day, the sites of Sacred Bodhi Tree (Sri Maha Bodhi), Ruwanweliseya, Archaeology Museum of Anuradhapura, Mirisawetiya, Ranmasu Uyana, Isurumuniya temple, Jetavana Monastic complex and its Site Museum were visited. Each site was properly guided and described (descriptive guidance) to the students by the academic staff members of the department, which the students could harness the best of their field visit.
