

The Department of History and Archaeology of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura organized a two-day training program for 3rd year History and Archaeology students on taking inscription stampages and a site visit to the Rajagala Archaeological Project on the 27th – 28th of August 2022.
Under the guidance of the Head of the Department and a prominent Epigraphist in Sri Lanka, Prof. Karunasena Hettiarachchi, the students were offered hands-on training on how to take an inscription stampage at the Rajagala Archaeological premises, where numerous pre-Brahmi and post-Brahmi inscriptions are available.
Further, the students were provided with a comprehensive site visit to the Rajagala project premises, covering prehistoric to late Anuradhapura monuments and zones, along with proper descriptive guidance from the project staff and the department academic staff.
The Department of History and Archaeology would like to thank the Vice-Chancellor of the USJ, Senior Professor Sudantha Liyanage and the Dean of the FHSS, Prof. Shirantha Heenkenda, for making the necessary arrangements to realize this two-day training program. Furthermore, the department expresses its gratitude to the Project Manager of the Rajagala Archaeological Project, Mr. Dasun Pathiraja and his staff for the necessary arrangements made for the success of this program.
