The Department of History and Archaeology of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura organized a two-day training program for 3rd-year History and Archaeology students on the course units of traditional irrigation and epigraphy at the Rajagala Archaeological Project, on the 4th and 5th of March 2023.
Under the guidance of the Head of the Department and a prominent Epigraphist in Sri Lanka, Prof. Karunasena Hettiarachchi, the students were offered hands-on training on how to take an inscription stampage at the Rajagala Archaeological premises, where numerous pre-Brahmi and post-Brahmi inscriptions are available. More academic staff members of the department, including Retired Prof. P.B. Mandawala, Prof. K.M. Alexander, Sen.Lect. (Rev.) Dambara Amila Thero and Sen.Lect. (Dr.) Oshan Wedage, participated in this visit with the students, providing them with a comprehensive understanding of the Rajagala site premises, covering prehistoric to late Anuradhapura period monuments and zones. Furthermore, the students were introduced to the traditional irrigation works of the premises along with proper descriptive guidance from the department academic staff and the project staff.
