4th year Archaeology undergraduates were offered an Instrument training for the Archaeo-Chemistry course unit- 2023

The Department of History and Archaeology of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura organized an Instrument training and practical demonstration for the 4th year Archaeology (Honours) Degree undergraduates relevant to their final year course unit on ‘Arcaheo-Chemistry’, on 27th April 2023, at the Instrument Centre of the Department of Chemistry of the Faculty of Applied Sciences, USJ.

Under the guidance of Mrs. Nilmini Nettasinghe, the Curator of the Archaeology Museum of USJ, the students were directed to receive awareness and practical demonstration on the instruments such as Atomic Absorption Spectrometer, X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Gas Chromatology- Mass Spectrometer (GC-MS) and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometry (FT-IR).

The Department of History and Archaeology would like to thank the Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences, USJ, the Director of the Instrument Centre, Dr. Saranga Diyabalanage, the Former Director of the Instrument Centre, Dr. Asitha Cooray and the academic staff members of the Department of Chemistry, for granting permission and making the necessary arrangements to offer a successful session for our undergraduate students.
