With the objective of recognizing and appreciating this year’s scholarship, award or competition winners, the Department of History and Archaeology organized ‘Students Appreciation Ceremony- 2023’, on the 10th October 2023, from 3.00 pm onwards, at Prof. Mendis Rohanadheera hall of the department.
Accordingly, Ishini Thamodya Jayathilaka, 3rd year undergraduate following the Archaeology (Honours) Degree programme, was first awarded for winning the ‘Dhara-2023’, the Inter-faculty Singing Competition organized by the Flair Club of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. Following that, Sen. Lect. (Dr.) Priyantha Thilakasiri, the Head of the Department of Music and Creative Technology of the FHSS, addressed the gathering and encouraged Ishini to balance her music career along with her professional career in Archaeology.
Next, Isuru Ushantha de Silva, 2nd year undergraduate following the History (Honours) Degree programme, was awarded for winning the first place in the All-Island Essay Competition (University category) organized to commemorate Dr. C.W.W. Kannangara, by the ‘C.W.W. Kannangara Memorial Fund’.
Finally, the Head of the Department of History and Archaeology, Sen. Lect. (Ven.) Dambara Amila, encouraged all undergraduates to engage and excel in co-curricular and extracurricular activities and balance their university life. All the students enthusiastically participated in this occasion to show their support for their fellow batch mates.
