The fourth-year undergraduates of the Department of Social Statistics organized a field visit to Galle on 28th August 2022 to 29th August 2022 under the course unit SOST 4235.3 – Data Analysis. The main objective of this field visit is to study the access to and use of IT devices and reading habits among secondary school children in the Galle Educational Zone. In addition to undergraduates, academic and non-academic staff members of the department also took part in the field visit. The field visit, indeed, was helping students to gain a practical understanding of collecting primary data through a sample survey. Moreover, all the undergraduates collectively engaged in different activities during the field visit which are helpful to improve their socio-emotional skills such as teamwork skills, leadership skills, organizing skills, and so on. Therefore, the field visit was a fabulous experience for all the participants of the department.
